Etymology

Named from R. Tarrant, v. Tarrant H. par. supra , RNs. infra ; for the identification of the DB form, v. Eyton 131–2, VCHDo 360, 73. The manor was held by William de Cahaignes in 1199 (P), and was in the possession of this family until the end of the 14th cent. (1201 FF, 1212 Fees, 1237 Pat, etc), cf. Coombe Keynes par. 1 114, v. tūn 'estate'.
