Etymology

Probably 'Mūla's homestead or enclosure', from the OE  pers.n. Mūla and hām or hamm , but 'homestead or enclosure where there were mules' is equally possible, with OE  mūl (gen. pl. mūla ) 'a mule' as first el, cf. Moulton YN 286, Ch 2207. According to Hutch3 1 669 this name 'now only survives in a parcel of ground adjoining the south side of Godlingston farm', cf. also De Moulham Rd supra , Mowlem Institute and Mowlams infra . There was a mill here in 1086 DB (VCHDo 3114).
