Etymology

'West farm or estate', v. west , tūn , referring to its situation in relation to Stalbridge. The earlier affixes Abbatis (gen.sg. of Lat  abbas 'an abbot') and Abbot (s ) refer to its possession by Sherborne Abbey from the 10th cent. North Weston 1388 Hutch3 (3 675) may have been part of this manor or of Callow Weston supra . The Anglo-Saxon bounds of Stalbridge Weston are given in 933 (12) SherC (S 423), v.
