Etymology

Callow Weston (lost), Callow Weston 1525 Hutch3, 1795 Boswell, 1869 Hutch3, Calweston (in Nywenham )1431 FA. For Weston, v. foll.; the manorial affix is from the family of Ralph and John le Calewe who held lands in Dunes Weston a1277 and 1297 respectively (Hutch3 3754), cf. also John le Calewe 1327SR , 1332 SR (taxed under Stalbridge Weston) and SoDoNQ 3 81ff. The form Westun Ralegh (possibly for Calegh ) 1270For may also belong here. Dunes Weston , no doubt to be identified with Callow Weston , is perhaps to be associated with the family of John le Doue (possibly for Done ) 1327SR (also taxed under Stalbridge Weston). Callow Weston was probably E of Stalbridge Weston, in view of the 1431 form and the likely location of Newnham supra .
