Etymology

Clotfurlong Lane, cf. Clotfurlongyate 1484, portam apud Clotfurlong 1531Digby , Clatfurlongate 1569–74Map , Clodvill Land 1811 OS, v. furlang , geat ; the first el. is possibly clott 'lump of earth, clod', but alternatively it may be a shortened form of the surname of William Cloter 1484Digby , who occurs in the same document as the first form.
