Etymology

Palbroke or Parbrook (lost, about ST 767052), Palbroke under Rawlsbury 1870 Hutch3, Palbroc 1258For , Palbrok (e )1317MiltC , 1327SR (p), 1552 Hutch3, 1602AddCh , Palbrouk (e )1332 SR (p), 1399, 1400Ilch , Pellbroke 1544 Hutch3, Pawlbroke 1557Surv , Parbrooks , Parbrook Md 1842TA , v. brōc 'brook, stream', first el. probably p(e)all 'ledge'; this would be topographically suitable since the brook in question is that flowing beneath the steep slopes of Bulbarrow Hill (hence under Rawlsbury , which refers to Rawlsbury Camp infra ) and beside Brooks Copse infra to which it may have given name.
