Etymology

'Open land by the hill', from hyll and feld . The 'hill' refers to the extensive high ground in the SE of the par. (The Hill 1843TA ), where the par. bdy lies above the 800′ contour for some 1½ miles, cf. Telegraph Hill (872′) partly in this par. and partly in Up Cerne par. 3 323, and Hillfield Hill (854′) in this par. infra .
