Etymology

'Wooded (estate)', from PrWelsh  *cdiǭg (*c d 'wood' with adjective suffix -iǭg ), v. Ekwall DEPN 103, RN 77, Jackson 229, 295, 327, 554, 557, and cf. Dunchideock PN D 495 and Quethiock DCoPN 146 which contain the same word. The alternative name Chid for the stream here, R. Winniford, is a late back-formation from the name of the village.
