Etymology
Probably 'Ceatta's hill-top or hillock', from the OE pers.n. Ceatta and cnoll, with reference to the 350′ hill SE of the village still called The Knoll. The alternating forms in Chete -, Chate - are due to shift of stress in the diphthong ea .
