Etymology

'Blocc's enclosure', from an OE  pers.n. Blocc and worð, cf. Bloxham O 394, Bloxholm Li and Bloxwich St (DEPN) all of which are held to contain this pers.n., and cf. Blockley Wo 98 which contains a wk. form Blocca . The OE spelling points rather to the OE  pers.n. Blaca with the variant wyrð , but it is probably corrupt; the charter itself from which it is taken may be spurious (S 1217). The isolated form Blokeswerdi (probably for Blokeswordi ) shows interchange of the second el. with w(e)orðig and Bloxforde shows confusion with ford . The present village is the former West Bloxworth, v. ēast , west .
