Etymology

Like Affpuddle supra , named from R. Piddle or Trent. The affix Prest (e )(s ) probably derives from the tenure of the DB manor of Pidele by Godric presbiter ('the priest'), v. prēost , VCHDo 3 112, 134.The later affixes are from the family of de Turbervill (Hugh de T (h )urbervill 1205 FineR, 1225 FF, Robert de Turbervill 1238 Cl, cf. Winterborne Muston in Winterborne K. par. supra and Melbury S. par. infra ), and from the first name of one member of this family (Brian de Turbervill 1316 FA, 1327 Ch). There is mention of a mill here in 1086 DB (VCHDo 3112), cf. The Mill Farm 1838TA .
