Etymology

Chesters Coppice & Chesters Hill (SY 585835), probably to be associated with (acr ' in ) Chesterrewe 1383Ilch , Chestrewe 1400Ilch , Chistrewe , Estchesterrewe , Weschestrewe 1414Ilch , perhaps 'row (of houses or trees) in dispute' from cēast 'strife, contention' and rǣw , with ēast , west ; there is no obvious reason for the name, since the par. boundary is a mile away.
