Etymology
This par. formerly contained two detached portions (1795 Boswell). The smaller of these to the NW (North Eggardon) was transferred to Askerswell par. infra in 1884 (Kelly). At the same date the larger detached part to the S (Ashley and Gorwell) was transferred to Long Bredy par. infra .
