Historical Forms

  • Walradene 1329 Ass 1346 Ass
  • Walradan 1401 Exon
  • Walreden 1421 Exon
  • Weldraden 1349 FF
  • Waldron 1719 FF

This is a difficult name but Professor Ekwall may well be right in suggesting that we have to do with an OE  Wēala -rǣden , 'community of Britons.' The place is very near the Cornish border.
