Etymology

This, as suggested by Blomé (18), may be a compound of weg and a British word *krako , denoting 'rock' or the like. Cf. Crake (RN 101) and Crakelond in Luppitt (1479Ct ), though this last may contain the pers. name Krake , of Anglo-Scandinavian origin, which is found in the name Henry Krakya in 1330 (SR ).
