Etymology

Since we have also five other farms of this name, viz. Bright's, Buckingham's, Huxtable's, Gould's, Mary's Leary, Leary Cross and a Leary Moor, all at no great distance from each other, it is likely that the name originally denoted the stream here, which joins the Taw at Bishop's Tawton. It may possibly be connected with the stream-name noted under Laira supra 20.
