Etymology

v. tun . Ekwall (RN 406) takes the first element of this name to be OE  þryscele , 'thrush,' which survives in Devon dialect as thrishel (v. EDD s. v .). Cf. also Thurlescombe infra 551, and la Throsalbeare 1470Ct . The river Thrushel (supra 14) is probably an early back-formation from the p.n.
