Etymology

This manor on the Teign was first held by the family of (de la) Bruere (1277Ass ). It had passed by 1352 (Pat) to Geoffrey Gras who was no doubt related to 'John called Gras ' (i.e. the fat one), a canon of the monastery of Torre (1351 Pat).
