Etymology

v. cot(e). The first element is OE  tadige , 'toad,' perhaps because these creatures were especially numerous on this particular settlement, which lies low near the river Lew. The modern development shows loss of initial t as explained s. v. æt in EPN, and the same change of d to r as in Darracott supra 43, 80.
