Etymology

This is a difficult name. Blomé (9) may be right in associating it with OE  haca , 'bolt,' originally 'hook,' used in some topographical sense, here of a thick tongue of land.A personal name Hac (c )a is also possible. Cf. Haycroft infra 116.
