The Quinta

Early-attested site in the Parish of St Mary Church

Etymology

There can be little doubt that this is an early example of the introduction into this country of the Spanish and Portuguese quinta , 'country house' or 'villa,' first recorded in NED s. a. 1777. Such a name in a coastal parish to which some Devon seaman had retired is not improbable.
