Etymology

Cf. Shillingford (O), Scillingeford c. 1185Cartae Antiquae , Shillingford 1278 Cl, 1316 FA. Professor Ekwall would take these names and also Shillinglee (Sx), differently explained in PN Sx 106, as containing an OE  pers. name *Sciella . Cf. further the OE  pers. name Scilling . Part of the manor was held by Torre Abbey .
