Etymology

In the boundaries of Newton St Petrock (BCS 725) the stream here is referred to as loddan broc , and both stream and ford probably contain the same first element lodda , perhaps the pers. name which lies behind Ludley (PN Sx 528) and is found in a strong form in Lodsworth (ib. 26) and Loddiswell infra 306.
