Etymology

'Farm by the sea,' v. tun . The earliest name of the place has reference to its position by the estuary of the Axe (v. fleot ). There was a place called Fleete Hill in the parish as late as 1704 (Deed ).Cf. also le Flete de Seton (1325 Misc).
