Etymology

Professor Ekwall and Dr Ritter agree in suggesting a pers. name as the first element. They take it to be an unrecorded OE  *Fēþla corresponding to OGer  Fandila (Förstemann, PN 496), the diminutive of OHG Fanto (ib.), a name allied to OE  fēþa , 'infantry,' fēþe , 'power of walking.'
