Etymology

An earlier spelling is provided by the surname (de) Tukkeston (1340SR sub Barnstaple). The first element is a strong form of the OE  pers. name Tucca (Redin 111). Cf. Tuxwell (So), Tocheswelle DB, Tukeswell (e )1226, 1228 FF, and Tuxlith (PN Sx 45).
