Etymology

One John atter Howe was living here in 1330 (SR ), while in 1370 (Exon) we have reference to 'capella Sancte Katerine atte Howe .' Leland calls it 'the How.' This is a point of comparatively high land projecting into Plymouth Harbour.v. hoh . There was an ancient chapelry here.
