Etymology

These two names may mean 'Col (l )a 's spring and wood,' v. wielle , bearu , but it is possible that the first element in both cases may be a river Coly as in Colyton supra 621. The places are actually on a small tributary now called Offwell Brook, but this may earlier have been known also as Coly. Cf. Ekwall RN 91.
