Etymology

'Monks' farm,' v. tun . The parish was formerly a chapelry of Colyton which was royal demesne TRE (DB). The connexion of the place with monks must, therefore, as in the case of Monk Okehampton supra 153, go back to some early period of Anglo-Saxon history.
