Etymology

A compound of OE  twī , 'double' (as in the p.n. Twyford) and wielle, 'spring.' Cf. Twywell (Nth), Tuiwella DB, Tuywell 1235 Cl. There are numerous springs in the neighbourhood and about half a mile east of Tuell there is a double spring.
