Kingsheanton

Early-attested site in the Parish of Marwood

Historical Forms

  • Hagintona 1086 DB
  • Kyngs Heaunton 1400 DA

Etymology

The DB form is probably an error and the history of the name the same as that of Heanton supra 45. The Fine Roll forms show duplication of the high element and folk-etymology has also been at work. Cf. Highampton infra 145. It is not known what King is referred to.
