Etymology

The forms are not sufficiently early for certainty. The place may derive from a medieval owner Prynn , the name having been altered later owing to the fact that it was a Duchy of Cornwall possession and as such belonged to the Prince of Wales. The farm is in a hollow and the hill must be that behind it.
