Etymology
The name was originally 'crow mere' rather than 'crane (or heron) mere.' Cranmere Pool is an insignificant pool in the heart of Dartmoor, but it is famous as being the source of the Teign, the Dart, the Tavy and the Okement rivers.For the form Cremere , v. Introd. xxxiii.
