Etymology

The place was distinguished as juxta Chekston (1296Ass ), Brodeham (1340Ass ), Exemuthe (1346Ass ), Wodebury (1350 Orig), Chikeston (1371FF ) and as LittelhamAbbatis (1316 FA). 'At the little ham(m).' v. Bradham infra 600. The abbot of Sherborne held the manor in 1086 (DB).
