Lamerhooe

Historical Forms

  • Lamerhowe 1562 FF

Etymology

The name may be a compound of OE  lambra , genitive plural of lamb, and hoh , referring to the spur of land running into the Tamar here. Mr Alexander suggests, however, that the name Lamburn may at an early date have been applied to the whole parish and that hoh , like tun , refers to an area included in the manor. Cf. Dunterton and Dunterue supra 182.
