Etymology

Self-explanatory, v. wer . Kingswear was originally a part of Brixham parish (supra 507) in which is also a Kingston. Since no manor in the parish was a royal one, either TRE or TRW, it is clear that the association of these two places with a king must go back to pre-Norman times.
