Etymology

We have in OE  pers. names Wunbeald , Wuncild , Wunstan which seem to contain an element Wun - (cf. Sweet OET 559).A pet-form Wun (n )a for one of these names seems here to be linked with wielle by the connective use of ing . The same name seems to be found in Wonwood, Wonnacott and Wonham supra 210, 212, infra 532.
