Etymology

Ekwall (RN 294) suggests tentatively that the first element may be an old stream-name identical in origin with Mint (We), earlier Mymid . If that is correct, we must assume that Mimidland was early reduced to Mimiland and that the name was then re-fashioned to Mimingland under the influence of other names in which, by the reverse process, -ingland had been reduced to -iland . Cf. Hartland supra 71.
