Etymology

We seem to have a pers. name Calmund in Calmsden (Gl), Kalemundesdene , Calmundesden BCS 466, and Calnōþ in Candlesby (L) DBCalnodesbi . These three place-names suggest the possibility of a series of OE  pers. names with a first element calu -, 'bald.' In that case Caulston must be 'Calusige 's farm,' v. ingtun .
