Etymology

v. leah . Ekwall (Studies 9) points out that there is evidence for an OE  pers. name Hyht . Cf. Hixon (St), Huchtesdona 1130 P, Huyhtesdon 1289Ass , Huttesdon 1292Ass . Cf. also hihtesgehæg (BCS 1106). *Hyhten would be a regular n -derivative of this.Hence, 'Hyhten 's leah.'
