Etymology

'New farm,' v. tun . The place was granted to Torre Abbey by William de Briwere in 1196 (Oliver). The meaning of Schireburn is not known. Possibly it was an old name for the Aller (supra 1). Part of the manor lay in the parish of Wolborough.
