Etymology

The t in the earliest form of this name is probably correct and in that case we must compare Mixnam (Sr), Mixtenhamm (BCS 34), both names alike going back to an OE  *mixten , a contamination of OE  meoxen , 'dung,' and mist , or of *misten and meox .Cf. Goth. maihstus , OHG  mist and OHG  mistunnea .
