Etymology

This, as suggested by Blomé (88), is probably a stream-name originally, going back to a British *Samiāco . This is no doubt a derivative of *samo - (W  haf ),'summer,' and the name may have been given to a never-dry brook. Cf. such English names as Summerbrook, -well, etc.
