Etymology

Both East and West Pulworthy are far from streams and one must therefore take the first element to be the pers. name *Pulla , probably found in Polehanger (PN BedsHu 172) and Pulborough (PN Sx 152) and certainly found in a diminutive form in Pulloxhill (PN BedsHu 160). For the latter cf. also Pulsford infra 525.
