Etymology

v. bearu . There are two tumuli on the hill above this place. If Reichel's identification of DB Bera (f. 295) with Cherubeer is correct, it is perhaps more likely, however, that the first element is OE  cyrice, 'church,' than cyric from British cruc , 'barrow, hill' (cf. Ekwall Studies 41).
