Etymology

'Curt 's hill,' v. cnoll . This pers. name is not recorded but would correspond to the weak Curta or Corta found in Corburn (PN NRY 14), and Courteenhall (Nth)Cortenhale DB, 1195 P, Curtehala 1316 Ch. Cf. also Coursehill Fm (O)Curteshull (1328 Ch) and a lost Curteshale in Rowington (Wa), Curteshale c. 1250Harl 1708.
