Etymology

Ekwall (RN 97) suggests that the first element may be an old name of the river Lyd, there being mention also of a Curiford (1242 Fees 773), Coryfforde (1346 FA), and a place in the parish Coryhill, for which no early forms have been found. This is very likely, since Lyd is an English name and the river must have had an earlier British name. For this river-name v. Cory supra 160.
