Etymology

This name clearly means 'cloven hill.' The reference is probably to the marked valley which runs up into the hill just west of Clannaborough village. There is a corresponding valley on the north side of the hill, so that it is divided into two well- marked halves. Cf. la Clovenetorre (1291Add ) near South Brent.
