Etymology

If this name is old it may contain the OE  pers. name Bǣgloc (BCS 181), though we should have expected a possessive s in that case. Cf. Bashley (Ha), at Bageslucesleia KCD 798, Bailocheslei 1086 DB, Ballokesle 1271Ass , Bayllokeslee 1314 Ipm. There are parallels, however, in Devon for the omission of the s , cf. Killington, Wiverton supra 66, 251.
