Etymology

No OE  pers. name Munt is on record, but the name can hardly be a compound of OE  munt , 'hill, mountain,' and dun, for 'hill of the hill' is impossible as a place-name. The name may well be of ME origin and contain a ME surname, cf. Mounticombe supra 376 and Mountsland infra 478.
